About Grace

Grace cheungAbout this Website: My writing on this blog will focus mostly on nonprofit marketing and social marketing, because I want to help spread ideas that will change the world for the better.  Why Gracie’s Empty Brain? My best friend of 17 years created my first blog for me back when I was 13 years old, and named it Gracie’s Empty Brain, and I never thought to name my official website anything else.  It makes me laugh.

About Me:

“UC Berkeley alumni. Idealist. Aspiring social entrepreneur. Adventurer. Yogi. Fitness junkie. Foodie. ENTJ.”

I am a marketing communications professional by day & a wannabe social entrepreneur by night.  I’m also a wannabe yoga teacher, but that’s another story.

I care deeply for humanity.  I believe in the guidance of mentors, regardless of age or profession. I truly believe in the power of education.  As Horace Mann once said, “Education…is a great equalizer of the conditions of men–the balance wheel of the social machinery…it gives each man the independence and the means by which he can resist the selfishness of other men.”   I want every person in this world to have access to a quality education, and realizing this goal will be my life’s work.

People & Things I Live For: my family and friends, sushi, beautiful weather, farmers markets, music of all sorts, hot yoga, kickboxing, boxing classes, pilates & ballet barre classes, Lululemon clothing, discovering 150 ft. waterfalls at the end of hiking trails, traveling to places I’ve never been to, learning new things, meeting new people, catching up with old friends, brewing new types of tea, Yelp-ing about restaurants, watching Broadway musicals, and eating cupcakes.

My Experience & Career: My passion for mentoring and community building began when I was fourteen years old.  That year, I started high school and joined Key Club (President, 2003-2004), an international community service organization.  During the next four years, I dedicated much of my free time and weekends to fund raise for organizations like the March of Dimes and the AIDS Walk, set up reading and health education programs at the local elementary schools, and recruit volunteers for monthly service events.

In college, I was a mentor at Project SMILE and co-founded an nonprofit organization called Global Generations Inc. (see UC Berkeley branch here: G2-China Care), a organization that serves as a social network and mentorship program for adopted teens around the world.

After college, I began my career as a marketing assistant at Monster Cable, a consumer technology company in the San Francisco Bay area.  There, I helped launch the Beats by Dre social media program, managed marketing projects, and supported the Monster PR team.

After that, I was the online marketing manager for a small web development and Internet marketing company in Los Angeles, providing services in all aspects of online marketing (SEO, SEM/PPC, social media, analytics, overall campaign management) for small to mid-sized B2B and B2C clients.

Currently, I’m part of the Corporate Marketing team at Spirent Communications, a B2B telecommunications company.  I specialize in mostly digital marketing and digital communications.  I also independently provide marketing consulting services for small businesses and start-ups. I coded my first website when I was thirteen years old and have been obsessed with all things Internet ever since, so working in the digital space was a natural progression for me.

My long term career goals include working in nonprofit marketing and management.  I also hope to combine my community building and marketing experience to help nonprofit organizations reach their business objectives, building brands, recruiting volunteers, attracting more donors, and just generating more excitement and support for their causes.
