G2-China Care Fall 2007

I found this picture looking through my old Facebook pictures (I’m on the bottom right hand corner) and it made me smile.

And this one too:

I miss having mentees.  I’m also in the market for a professional mentor myself.  I guess I just haven’t met anyone so far that would seem like a good fit as a mentor.  It’s kind of a special relationship.

I had hoped that when I started my professional career that I would be able to find that one person that would help guide me and lead me through my career.  Maybe that’s why people in my generation switch jobs so quickly.  They’re looking for managers that actually care about their work and their professional development.  Someone that will view them as an asset to the company–and not a cost.  But I also understand that some managers see it as a purely transactional relationship: you produce work, I give you a paycheck.  Sometimes, I guess it isn’t enough.  As with other relationships, it takes two people to make it work.  Anyway, maybe I’ll find a professional mentor soon.  And maybe someday, someone will ask me to be his/her mentor.  That would be awesome.
